datamining beginner question

Hi,

We are using the SQL Server 2000 as our database server, we have
approximately 20k customers in our database.
We are thinking making good use of our database, trying selling some
products to the potential cusotmers, based on the existing customer list.
I know the 20k customers is not a big number, but we still wanna do
something to dig out the possible customers.
I need some advice for doing that.

(Yes, I know its almost 2 months since you posted this but ...)

I have not worked with SQL 2000 Analysis Services, but from what I hear,
2005 SSAS is a much better product. You don't need to learn MDX scripting in
order to get data out of it, and it incorporates well with Office 2007,
particularly Excel.

The data mining portion will take some time. Get the book "Applied Microsoft
Analysis Services 2005" by Teo Lachev (if you go the SQL 2005 route). It's a
good comprehensive book.
